As a rural village, Mountnessing is surrounded by beautiful green belt and farmland and has a number of footpaths, walks and countryside trails to explore.

A circular route from Ingatestone Hall, taking in Buttsbery Church, Mountnessing Hall, the Church of St Giles, the River Wid to Mountnessing Windmill is approximately 6.5 miles long, although a shorter 5 mile route can be achieved too.
